It's amazing, isn't it? Wasn't until I was struggling with that pesky presentation that I realised how identical it was to the effect we're actually trying to create (though without the carbon monoxide fumes)

Most unbelievable analogy as to how something can operate 'on the edge'. No one would believe it possible without the video.

Thanks for sharing.

Love that it's getting around and out there. I'm still learning lots and lots, and feel like I could rewrite the post next month with all new premises.

Thanks for dropping by, Allison. I also had a lengthy love-affair with my Netvibes page but I've got so used to keeping half-a-dozen key tabs open at all times...

Mind you, it's been six months since I last paid it any serious attention - I realy should see what they've been working on.

For a lot of people, its more than just RSS Readers. I personally have a few blogs I follow, but I love my facebook and twitter notifier too. Pageflakes also looks much better than iGoogle and company- I want to be able to add a theme, or create one myself.

I don't mind my desk being messy, to a point...last night my husband asked me for our 2006 tax return. I blithely reached into a pile and pulled it right out. So if I can remember where things are or find them easily, I tolerate the mess. Kind of like my brain, after all!

I have never been that interested in programming per se, though I would like to learn more HTML/CSS/etc. But that's more for a design perspective--customizing blogs and web sites--rather than being interested in the technology itself. That's a distinction mentioned in the article, and probably part of the dearth of female IT professionals. Also the social aspect of creating content vs. the relatively solitary activity of programming probably makes a difference.

lol... the headline drew me in...

I hate to admit that you're right, but, you probably are. Women seek community online...
What do men seek? Do they view it as a tool or a toy, where women view it as a way to connect with others?

I work in Engineering/Design, and about 15% of us are female... and the blogging percentage is roughly equal to that.

Thoughts to ponder, thanks!

Thanks for the mention - shedworking is very concerned about changes in work patterns (though there is lots of attractive stuff in there as well, such as the marvellous Cool Feet you also mention). I also produce a free pdf bimonthly magazine called The Shed which is available simply by emailing me.
