Microsoft - corked?
Any number of people have been sniggering at the new Microsoft Blue Monster white wine by Stoemhoek (and yes, it certainly is a marketing coup for Stormhoek). There’s plenty of reason to drown their sorrows, what with MacBooks now accounting for more than 1 in 6 sales in the US (before the back to school market even kicks off).
Then there’s the ongoing tendency for Windows fans and high-profile techies to suddenly and publicly lose it with Vista (let alone Microsoft Live). As if being vulnerable to 13 year old viruses wasn’t bad enough…
So far, our institution isn’t going anywhere near Vista. And I hope that situation continues. I love IIS, I love .NET - I think Microsoft are doing a lot of things right with Silverlight and Popfly but the consumer end of their market, the cash cow that has kept everything else afloat for so long, feels like it’s coming apart at the seams…
