Following on from my previous post about social network interoperability, it would seem that privacy may indeed be the most important piece of the puzzle. ZDnet highlights the legal but unpleasant data miners at Rapleaf whilst Doc Searles amongst others touches on the dubious spamming practices of Quechup. According to Mashable, the problem is Quechup’s habit of asking to check your email contact lists for friends in common (or who you might like to invite) and then bulk-spamming all of them without permission without further ado. Quechup is actually an online dating site owned and operated by iDate which probably tells you all you need to know, though the Quechup site itself is actually rather coy about it’s core business model.
