Blogging fatigue breaks out

Some of the 800lb gorillas of the blogging world have recently been confessing to blogging fatigue (and while you’re over at Gaping Void, check out the entry on Seth Godin).  In some cases, this has extended to Facebook Fatigue, God help us.

Last year, danah boyd wrote about her semi-annual outpouring of “I [or should that be 'i'?] suck” posts and emails when the sheer volume of communications begins to weigh her down.  Implicit in this is the notion that Kent Newsome’s “Five Stages of Blogging” are in fact a cycle – that every so often, one feels like just walking away from the whole turgid business of wading through not only one’s own  thoughts but those of hundreds of other people.

Personally, I have a log-jam of ideas I want to write about and websites and blogs I’m desperate to explore properly.  But I’m also tired and haven’t the mental or physical bandwidth to do any of it justice.  So the fact that I’m going on holiday tomorrow for a week with no net access is probably very timely.  I may or may not be leaving a set of link posts in the meantime (just been going back through del.icio.us (like I said, there’s humongous mass of stuff  out there to engage with) but comments will be moderated in the meantime.  I may sneak out the odd tweet.  But don’t tell anyone.

  2. I know what you mean, Michael. I’ve taken August off blogging on my writing and arts blog Fusion View at http://www.fusionview.co.uk and the rest is helping me re-charge my batteries. I’ve got a heap of stuff I want to blog about but it’s finding the time to do the ideas/ discussions justice that’s the tough part.

  3. Actually, I’m avoiding posting here for another few days whilst I start sorting out a bunch of domestic ’stuff’ (mostly to do with rearranging a room for an impending new arrival). And it’s nice to have the sensation of ideas starting to dam up a little…
