How web 2.0 are you? Measuring progress and resistance

David Lee King posted a fairly provocative graphic in answer to a question often posed to him - “Are you a web 2.0 librarian?“.

The use of the term ‘Luddite’ generated a fair bit of heat on his post’s comments and it isn’t a term I’d use myself but, though one could expand his continuum, it works pretty well applied to organisational change in general. Where’s our organisation? I’d say that collectively we’re at the ‘lightbulb’ moment, with members of staff scattered all over David’s spectrum. The overall context I’m viewing this in, of course, is managing organisational resistance in it’s all its hydra-headed abundance of forms.

How far will we ourselves eventually inch along towards the ‘iPhone’ (ha!) moment? As far as necessary.  I’d also comment that ‘resistance’ should always be read as a metaphor.  In electronics, a resistor is another useful component on a circuit board.  (Imagine an office full of iPhone users.  No, really imagine it.)

What about your organisation? Had any lightbulbs flick on recently?
